(KSL News) The former UVSC student arrested for illegally purchasing firearms is competent to stand trial.

Kidus Yohannes was arrested last June on charges that he illegally purchased guns using false identification and a stolen credit card.

Yohannes has a previous criminal record.

He was also arrested for carrying a concealed weapon without a license, and in 2005 he was charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds.

His roommates say he was building an arsenal of weapons and was showing a fascination with mass violence.

Yohannes will stand trial on September 20.
