Team Coverage A Salt Lake Police Department motor cop is in the hospital following a traffic accident.
Authorities say the officer was patrolling downtown on his motorcycle when he spotted a speeding SUV. He pulled out and began pursuing the vehicle.
The SUV drove into oncoming traffic and jumped the median on 300 West. The officer tried to follow the vehicle over the barrier, but crashed. "[He] tripped on the median, flipped and rolled. He has some shoulder injuries, some leg injuries," said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Arthur Healy.
The officer is listed in critical condition tonight.
Now police are looking for the suspect and his SUV, a new Jeep Cherokee with a temporary tag.
