Sandra Yi ReportingA Fruit Heights man was arrested, accused of groping a woman in a public library.
The victim went to a Davis County library yesterday to check email and relax. She was reading a magazine when a man snuck up behind her and did something she never expected.
Rachel, Victim: "Some man, out of the blue, came up behind me and reached under my arm and just grabbed my breast really hard. When someone touches you in that part of your body, it's just so, it just makes you feel so degraded, and just was in shock."
The stranger's advances were unexpected. It was the middle of the day and Rachel was surrounded by people.
Rachel: "If he's done this to me, he's probably done it to other people."
But Rachel wasn't about to let him get away with it.
Rachel: "So I just kinda chased after him so I could make sure he got caught."
Rachel yelled for the librarian to call police. Then she followed the man, who ran to the courthouse.
Rachel: "I saw two courthouse men working and I said, because he started running when he saw me, I said, 'Grab that man, don't let him go, he's a criminal.'"
The men grabbed the suspect, Daniel Silverstein, and held on to him until police arrived.
Rachel: "He said, 'Did that offend you?' And I said, 'Of course that offended me.' And I just said, 'You don't have the right to touch anybody. You don't have the right to touch anybody like that.'"
Rachel says she trusted her instincts.
Rachel: "The big thing that was going through my mind was, if he's willing to do this in public to an adult in a public place, what would he do to a small child?"
She says it's important for women to speak up.
Rachel: "Basically, I just recommend that women do what I did, which was use my voice."
Daniel Silverstein is in the Davis County Jail on sexual battery charges. Police are investigating if he's done this to other women in the past. If you have any information about him, call Farmington Police.
