SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An elderly man accused of trying to defraud a bank out of thousands of dollars has been charged.
Prosecutors have filed forgery and theft-by-deception charges against a 73-year-old man.
Authorities say the elderly man attempted to cash a check at Zions Bank for more than 432-thousand dollars. Bank officials say when they called the company to which the check belonged, they found out it was stolen.
Detectives say the man had also previously deposited five counterfeit traveler's checks.
The man allegedly told police someone had given him the traveler's checks. He said although he knew they were fake, he deposited them anyway.
The man also told officers he got the stolen check from a guy he met over the Internet.
