Overview:In this week's Sunday Edition with Bruce Lindsay Project Utah: Island Roots. A closer look at the contributions of.... and challenges facing Utah's Polynesian community. Plus we'll preview a Conference dedicated to finding solutions to help Polynesian young people navigate their future. And the list of Polynesian FOOTBALL greats is a long one. Meet a rising star in a different sport.

Segment 1

Pacific Islanders are an important part of the tapestry of peoples who contribute to the life we know in Utah. Land-locked, desert Utah may seem an unlikely Mecca for Polynesians, but a lot of them have come here. In fact, Census numbers show that 25% of all ethnic Tongans in America live here in Utah. We have nearly as many Samoans and strong communities of other Pacific Islanders. How that came to be is an interesting story. We asked former BYU football star and Philadelphia sportscaster Vai Sikahema to explain Utah's island roots.

Segment 2

The positive strides made by Utah's Polynesian community seem sometimes to be overshadowed by high profile crimes and gang activity. That is one of the issues that is going to be discussed at the Pacific Islander event "Navigating the Future" this Wednesday at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. (include link http://www.rsvpbook.com/event.php?494527) We got a preview of the conference from two organizers.

Segment 3

The football rosters at Utah universities and colleges are filled with Polynesian players but we recently caught up with a young athlete who thinks more Polynesians should consider golf. Hear why be believes golf is his ticket to college.
