(KSL News) Utah businessman and philanthropist Robert L. Rice has died.
Rice became a pioneer in the physical fitness industry. He founded European Health Spas and later was chairman of Spa Fitness Centers.
In 1972 he donated $1-million to renovate Ute Stadium on the University of Utah campus, and it became Rice Stadium.
The Eccles family helped with the latest expansion and it is now known as Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Robert Rice was 78.
