WENDOVER -- Police in West Wendover are looking for a driver who hit a man, and left him to die.

Terron Hooper - nicknamed Demi - was found in the road at the intersection of Wells Avenue and Wendover Boulevard shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday.

He left for Wendover Saturday on a last minute trip with friends to celebrate his 22nd birthday. Hooper's grandmother, Mary Hooper, spoke with him before the trip.

"I gave him some money for his birthday, and I know his mother had given him money for his birthday, and I think that's when they all decided they were going to go to Wendover," she said..

Mary Hooper said her grandson was a good kid who had a lot of friends, and that he would do anything for anyone.
Mary Hooper said her grandson was a good kid who had a lot of friends, and that he would do anything for anyone.

Her grandson and his friends took the bus to Wendover late Saturday afternoon. Just after midnight Sunday, Hooper left his friends at a bar and began walking to a casino.

Around 1:45 a.m., a cab driver called police, after finding Hooper's body. Police say he had been hit by a car.

The driver who hit him never stopped.

The grandmother said Hooper was a good kid who had a lot of friends, and that he would do anything for anyone.

"I know that sometimes there's accidents, that it's a dark area and things happen, but to leave somebody there like garbage, on the side of the road, is no respect for human life," she said.

Some of Hooper's family was in Wendover today, posting flyers, pleading for help finding the driver of the car who hit Hooper. They also went to Elko, where his body was taken for an autopsy.

Police said they are working on tips and the investigation is still under way.
