This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Utah has developed a strong presence in the healthcare sector. Not only do we have great organizations like the Utah Health Information Network, but Intermountain Healthcare has received national recognition for its high quality of healthcare. Two Utah hospitals are also listed among the best in the nation.
You can add National Benefit Services to the list of companies adding to Utah's presence in the healthcare sector. If you have a flex spending account, receive reimbursement for healthcare services or have benefitted from cobra insurance coverage, those services may have come through this West Jordan company. This year alone they've issued over 42,000 debit cards and have over 73,000 participants in health reimbursement and flexible spending plans.
President Paul Lovell says National Benefits serves clients in all 50 states, Canada and American Samoa. They've grown on average at the rate of 20 percent annually for the last five years. This year is their 25th anniversary of being in business.
One of the major hurdles the company has overcome most recently is the effect of the new healthcare regulations. The biggest challenge has been dealing with the uncertainty. Many businesses want to keep everything status quo until they figure things out. This makes it harder to capture new business, but they have a strong commitment to making sure customers are aware of their ability to comply with the regulations while providing excellent service.
One of the secrets to this company's success is their employees. National Benefits Services now has 150 employees, and they're growing like crazy. Of course job creation is essential to Utah's economic growth. Paul has worked hard to create a culture where employees feel valued. When this happens, they can pass the value they feel back to the clients, and this is a critical role in the company's success. They also believe in sharing openly how the company is doing financially.
National Benefit Services often receives feedback from clients on their knowledge and professionalism. For these guys it's all about figuring out a solution rather than telling someone it won't work.
