Sandra Yi ReportingPolice are looking for the driver of a car that hit a Salt Lake City man, then left the scene.

It happened at 2700 S. Redwood Road. It is proving to be a frustrating case for police, who say they have nothing to go on. The victim was hit by a car around 7:30 last night. Police believe he got off a bus and was crossing the street.

Police Searching for Hit-and-Run Suspect

A woman noticed the 53-year old victim lying on the ground and flagged down an officer. The victim suffered severe head trauma and was bleeding. Police say he had a bus pass and was carrying a bag of groceries. His belongings were found as far as 20 feet away. Police also found vehicle debris by the victim.

Police know who the victim is, but they're not releasing his name. They haven't had any luck finding any family members.

Sgt. Randy Maurer, West Valley City Police Dept.: "We haven't had any luck yet finding anybody. We've been in contact with the hospital to see if they have any resources to locate any family members. They haven't had any luck either."

Police Searching for Hit-and-Run Suspect

Police did find a car they believe was involved in the hit and run. Someone ditched the 1994 white Mustang behind a business at 1070 W. 2350 S. Police say the car has damage that's consistent with this type of accident.

Witnesses did see someone getting out of that car yesterday, but didn't get a good description. Police believe the driver intended to hide the car there because it's hidden enough that officers wouldn't have seen it during routine patrols. Police say the car is registered to a home in Woods Cross, but that home is vacant.

Police say they have no tips, no witnesses at this point. They hope someone saw something and will call in with information that can help solve the case.

The victim is still in the hospital in critical condition.
