LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Leon Jackson III has his old job back.

He will be the starting quarterback when Utah State opens the season Aug. 30 against UNLV, coach Brent Guy said Wednesday.

Jackson beat out junior transfer Sean Setzer and sophomore Jase McCormick.

Jackson has 14 starts in three seasons. He lost the job to freshman Riley Nelson last fall, but Nelson is away for two years on a Mormon church mission.

"Leon understands that he needs to execute and stay within the game plan, or we will find the next guy that can," Guy said. "At this point we had to make a decision in order to start installing a game plan so everybody knows what their role is."

Jackson passed for 694 yards last year with three touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed 56 times for 105 yards.

The Aggies were 1-11 in 2006.
