The crew in Torino had a little down time today. We all spent our day doing something different. I chose to get out in the daylight (I work overnights) and explore the city. There were a few places on my list I wanted to visit before we leave on the 28th. My first stop was at the ancient Roman Ruins that exist under Torino. They have, over the years, dug a bunch of the artifacts up. Some are under a glass floor inside a museum and some are out in the open. The biggest and most visible remaining, is a part of the entrance to the ancient Roman city. My second stop was the church where the Shroud of Turin is kept. It is believed that the Shroud was the burial cloth of Jesus. The actual Shroud is not actually on display but seeing a replica and reading about it's history was amazing. The rest of my day was spent wandering through the shopping district here. On Saturdays the city comes alive. There were literally hundreds of people out and about today. My final stop tonight was the blue church. OK that’s not the official name or the official color. It has been lit with blue lights for the Olympics and I still don’t know the official name.

Joey Cheek stopped by the workspace tonight. He won another medal in the 1000m long track skating race. He seems to be one of the nicest, most well spoken guys around. And on top of that he is donating his winnings to charity. We have also just gotten word that Apolo is on his way over for interviews. I will post that picture at a later date.

We are plugging along here in Torino. We are down to a week and two days left. I can't say the time is going fast, but it's not slow either. I am amazed we have been here two weeks already. I hope things are looking good for all of you back in Salt Lake. We obviously see the stories we edit here, but we don't see them in the context of a whole newscast.

And one more thing before I go...I just want to respond to John K. who left Graydon the message about doing our own wash. If there were enough hours in the day we would do our own wash. "Working the Olympics" is just that....work. We are working 15-16 hour days. If we leave our work space it is to get what little sleep we can. I personally don't have time to sit in front of a washer and dryer. Besides that there are no washers and dryers available in our media village, or within walking distance. It is expensive to get our clothes cleaned here, but well worth the convenience of not having to do it ourselves. The cost was just a shock to our systems.
