BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (AP) -- County Planner Garth Day says land speculators are illegally subdividing land in western Box Elder County and selling the small parcels on the Internet.

He told county commissioners Tuesday that several land speculators have bought plots of land, divided them into much smaller parcels and are selling the smaller parcels on Internet sites.

The minimum lot size in the area is 160 acres, but Day says quarter- to half-acre parcels are being resold for about 300 dollars to 500 dollars.

He says some buyers are surprised to learn they cannot build on the property.

Commissioners appointed Day, County Recorder/Clerk LuAnn Adams and County Attorney Amy Hugie to look into possible action on the subdivided parcels.
