SANTAQUIN — An incident in a mine shaft reportedly injured 12 individuals Sunday, according to Utah County officials.

The Utah County Sheriff's office received reports of several people being burned by gasoline-induced flames in the southwest region of Utah County. The victims had left the scene before deputies arrived but rendezvoused with medical personnel in Santaquin.

A total of 12 adults were transported to local hospitals, officials said. Of that group, one person was later transferred to the burn unit at University of Utah Hospital. Another three individuals were also referred to the burn center.

The incident is still under investigation and the victims' names have not yet been released. Representatives from the Sheriff's Office could not comment on the severity of the victim's conditions.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
