Sam Penrod ReportingThe arrival of a new baby is always an exciting time, for the parents and especially for the grandmas. But have you ever heard of a grandma having a baby on the same day as her daughter?
You have to ask yourself, what are the odds of this? Mother and daughter giving birth on the same day, in the same hospital, even the same room, just one hour apart. They say it was meant to be.
Sherrie Callister and her daughter Chelsee Bushman are going to visit their babies in the Newborn ICU.
Sherrie Callister: "This is Dakota dean Callister.
Chelsee Bushman: "And this is Bentley Mae Bushman."
No doubt Bentley's and then Dakota's arrival last Thursday night was a huge surprise, but it wasn't the first.
Chelsee Bushman, New Mom and Sister: "Well, at first finding out my mom was pregnant was a big surprise, but knowing once they got there together, it was not normal, but it seemed normal."
Dakota was due on March 30th, Bentley on April 17th. So how were they possibly born at the same time? Well, Chelsee was admitted to the hospital three weeks ago because of pregnancy complications. And on Thursday, her mother's blood pressure was rising fast.
Sherrie Callister, New Mom and Grandma: "It kept going higher and higher. So he said, 'Let's start you and we're going to have you in the labor room at 8:00. And pretty soon they came in and said we're going to have to make that 9:00."
That's because Chelsee suddenly went into labor, nine weeks before her due date. Both moms had c-sections in the same operating room, an hour apart. Now they are all together in the ICU.
It is the introductions of who's who, which makes this tricky.
Sherrie Callister, New Mom and Grandma: "Dakota is the uncle and Bentley is the niece, and I'm the grandma to Bentley."
Whatever the connection, Bentley Mae Bushman and Dakota Dean Callister will always share a common bond. Both Bentley and Dakota will be in the hospital for about another month.
So what about birthdays? The new moms say they are planning to have those birthday parties all together.
