Monterrey, Mexico, Feb 13 (EFE).- Mexican actress and filmmaker Salma Hayek made donations totaling $50,000 to two groups that aid victims of domestic violence here in this northern industrial city.

Hayek presented the gifts Sunday night at an event with the organizations Peaceful Alternatives and Center for Family Research.

While the former focuses on providing protection and assistance to battered women, the latter works to help the indigent and shield children from abuse.

Citing statistics indicating that half of all Mexican women experience some type of aggression, Hayek told the gathering in Monterrey that violence begets violence.

More often than not, she said, "the men who hit women have also been victims." EFE
