With the quadrennial Olympic Winter Games getting underway tomorrow in Torino, Italy, it is natural for Utahns to reflect on our state's memorable moment on the world stage four years ago.

What an event it was!

-The pageantry of the opening ceremony at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

-The record setting competition at venues throughout Northern Utah.

-The celebratory atmosphere of the stunning, panoramic Medal's Plaza.

-The extraordinary Corp of disciplined and friendly volunteers.

-The social interaction among spectators, and the parties and pin trading.

-The emotional fireworks of the Closing Ceremony and saying farewell.

Yes, what an event it was.

Of the many residual benefits of 2002, KSL believes one of the most remarkable can be found in the makeup of the team of U.S. Olympians that is now in Torino. Some 40 competitors are Utahns, or have lived and trained in our communities during the last few years.

That, in KSL's view, is one of the most significant legacies of Utah's wise investment in quality facilities! It perpetuates the state's reputation as a formidable Olympic community. Moreover, it gives all Utahns a personal cadre of athletes to cheer for.

So cheer with enthusiasm, reflect a bit on 2002, and perhaps entertain hopeful thoughts about the future when we might be able to do it here again.
