SALT LAKE CITY — Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who want to try out for The Mormon Tabernacle Choir can apply for an audition beginning next month.

The choir announced Friday it will accept audition applications for all vocal parts beginning July 1.

  • Opens: Friday, July 1, 12:01 a.m.
  • Closes: Monday, Aug. 15, midnight
  • Download application here

The applications can be downloaded at the choir's website beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 1, through midnight on Monday, Aug. 15. That's the only time period an application can be downloaded and received for the 2011 audition cycle. The next application period will be in July 2012.

Completed applications (including the required tape/CD) must be received in the choir office by Aug. 15. No personal deliveries to the choir office can be accepted due to security regulations.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between the age of 25 and 55 years of age
  • Live within a 100 mile radius of Temple Square
  • Be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in good standing

Auditionees who complete the full audition cycle will be accepted into the Temple Square Chorale and complete a 16-week training school before final acceptance into the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

According to its website, the choir has appeared at 13 world's fairs and expositions, performed at the inaugurations of five U.S. presidents, and sung for numerous worldwide telecasts and special events. Five of the choir's recordings have achieved "gold record" and two have achieved "platinum record" status.
