MIDVALE -- Police surrounded a home in Midvale Wednesday where a man who was running from police entered through an unlocked door and was hiding inside.
It was a complete surprise to the woman who lived there, who didn't hear the man enter her house and had no idea she wasn't alone.
Next door at the home of Jeff Passey, another suspect was hiding in the backyard and two more were on the way.
"We just started a neighborhood watch in the area," Passey said. It was one of those watchful neighbors that called him at work around 4 p.m. Wednesday to tell him that cops with guns drawn were surrounding his home.
Passey arrived in time to see K9 units go over his fence to get to a man hiding in his bushes.
Police pulled another man out of the home next door.
But the search for these two suspects -- 26-year-old Shawn Garfield and 26-year-old Wayne Gull -- started when a Unified Police officer spotted the two in a stolen Mercedes in Salt Lake City. Due to safety concerns, police terminated and restarted the chase, eventually finding the car abandoned near 7800 South and 700 East.
The pair ran several blocks and ended up in Passey's neighborhood.
At some point during the chase, Garfield and Gull called Nathan Hansen and Sarah Laniloo for help.
Lt. Justin Hoyal with the Unified Police Department said, "They were actually calling friends to come pick them up, and the individuals that showed up actually showed up in a stolen Honda."
Hansen and Laniloo were also arrested at the scene.
Meanwhile, the stolen Mercedes was returned to its owner, who says it was taken from her garage on Sunday.
"I really thought it was going to be gone," said the car's owner Amy Nilson. "I didn't think for one second I would get it back. I thought they'd part it out and it would be history."
For a short time it was believed that Uintah County murder suspect Bruce Silva was inside the stolen car. Police say one of the suspects closely matched his description.
