Berkeley-based novelist Ayelet Waldman is The Bee Book Club's choice for February. Her book "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits" (Doubleday, $23.95, 352 pages) went on sale last month.
Waldman described it as being "about a young woman who has a young stepson with whom she doesn't really get along. It's about her learning to love him, and that's what it's going to take for her to redeem herself and her marriage."

The former trial lawyer will give a presentation, host a question-and-answer session and sign her book on Thursday. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria, 828 I St., in conjunction with the Sacramento Library Foundation. It's free and open to the public.
