SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Hurricane woman was killed last night when the car she was driving was struck head-on near the polygamous community of Hildale.
The Utah Highway Patrol says 46-year-old Darlene Begay was headed west on State Route 59 when an eastbound pickup truck veered into her lane.
She died at the scene. Her 22-year-old male passenger was hospitalized for injuries at Dixie Regional Medical Center.
After the collision, the pickup spun around and was struck by a tractor-trailer that didn't have time to stop.
The driver of the pickup was 18-year-old Jared Allred of Colorado City, Ariz. He suffered multiple serious injuries and was taken to the St. George hospital. His passengers, boys aged 11 and 12 from Hildale, were also injured and hospitalized.
The 11:20 p.m. accident remains under investigation. The highway patrol says no one has been cited.
