WEST VALLEY CITY — Some people who paid their respects to loved ones this Memorial Day discovered that they have been victims of theft.
Linda Stewart visited her family graves at Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery Monday only to discover that two bronze vases from her parents' grave sites had been stolen. She's angry and doesn't understand why anybody would do that.
The thieves are targeting the bronze vases — some worth more than $900 — for the money they can get from recyclers.
The general manager of the cemetery told KSL News, the cemetery has been notified of about a dozen thefts. He said, often, family members don't notice that things are missing for a while so it's hard to say exactly when the thefts took place.
