Luckily, our latest round of winter weather happens to coincide with the outdoor retailer's show, that offers equipment to keep you safe.
The Utah Avalanche Center tells us that the avalanche danger is moderate to considerable this morning. There were numerous human-triggered avalanches in the backcountry yesterday. Some skiers lost gear, but no one was hurt.
If you're hitting the slopes in these conditions, there are some new gadgets featured this week at the Salt Palace that can help keep you safe.
A thermatic blanket traps your body heat, in case of an avalanche.
Outdoor adventure enthusiast Brian Brawdy showed us that, and a small backpack that can save your life in a snow slide.
It's called Avalung. It allows you to exhale through a mouth piece and the carbon dioxide is routed through the rear of the backpack.
Brian Brawdy/ Outdoor Adventure Enthusiast: "Now one of the big things about avalanches is the suffocation. So you want to make sure when you're exhaling that carbon dioxide that it's going away from where you're going to take in your next breath."
Other gadgets to keep you safe include crush proof water bottles, a signal beacon, and goggles that don't fog up.
