Jan. 26--Mayor Bloomberg's significant other, Diana Taylor, is in line for a very significant job in Washington -- as boss of the agency that oversees the nation's banks.
Taylor, who now heads the state Banking Department, is expected to be named chairwoman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. by the White House in the next few weeks, sources told the Daily News yesterday.
Assuming she is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, the brainy and elegant Taylor, 50, would be only the third woman to head the agency.
It could also mean that Bloomberg's private jet will be logging some extra miles, as Taylor would have to work out of Washington, at least during the week.
Taylor has been Bloomberg's near-constant companion since before his election in 2001 -- marching in parades with him, having late-night dinners with him after civic meetings, even camping out with him overnight in a city office during last month's transit strike.
Taylor, a Dartmouth grad and investment banker who joined Gov. Pataki's staff in 2002, first as deputy secretary for finance and later as banking superintendent, declined to comment yesterday, as did the White House.
