FARMINGTON -- A Logan mother accused of drugging her two children with anti-depressants and then cutting one of their wrists smiled and waved at friends while standing in front of a judge Wednesday morning.

Reggie Ann Peck showed up for a scheduled pre-trial hearing but it was postponed because a plea deal is in the works.

The case has been delayed several times over the past year because lawyers needed more time to gather evidence and mental evaluations on Peck.

She was arrested August 30, when deputies found the woman and her two girls -- ages 3 and 4 at the time -- inside a parked vehicle on a road in South Weber. According to court documents, Peck had been there with the girls for two days, giving them the drug Trazodone in their bottles.

At some point she had also tried to cut one child's wrist with a box cutter.

When deputies tried to get Peck out of the car, she grabbed one of the girls, held a box cutter to her own throat, and slit her throat in front of her children. Deputies broke the vehicle's window to rescue the children.

Peck's attorney, Todd Utzinger, said Wednesday his client is now stable and ready to make a decision on how to move forward with her case. Utzinger would not give details of a plea deal prosecutors have offered or if it includes jail time. He said only that defense attorneys have proposed a counter-offer.

"Hopefully we'll get a final decision of what plea opportunity is going to be made available to her. Then Reggie will have to decide whether she want to accept that offer," he said.

State prosecutor Richard Larsen declined to comment on camera about the plea deal. He said Peck has until June 1 to decide if she is going to take a deal. If she declines, the case will move forward to trial.

Peck was originally charged with two counts each of second-degree felony inflicting serious harm on a child intentionally and administering a substance surreptitiously.
