Dance legend FAYARD NICHOLAS has died at his home in California. He was 91.
With his brother HAROLD, Nicholas formed THE NICHOLAS BROTHERS in his teens and debuted the high-energy act at New York's legendary Cotton Club in the early 1930s.
The African-American siblings broke the colour barrier in America and went on to star in Broadway shows before making it big in Hollywood.
The Nicholas Brothers' Jumpin' Jive dance sequence in 1943 film STORMY WEATHER remains one of the movie world's greatest dancing scenes and they were famous for their splits performances in films like KID MILLIONS and THE PIRATE.
Fayard won a Tony Award in 1989 for his choreography work on stageshow BLACK & BLUE, and the brothers were awarded Kennedy Center Honors in 1991.
