SANTIAGO, Chile, Jan 25, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The eldest daughter of former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet was detained on tax evasion charges Wednesday when she arrived at a Washington airport.
Lucia Pinochet Hiriart was arrested at the Washington Dulles Airport after arriving from a fight from Argentina, said Chilean officials. She was supposed to appear in court in Santiago on Monday to face the charges but didn't show.
Four other of Pinochet's children were arrested this week on related charges. His wife, Lucia Hiriart, was also detained.
The 90-year-old Pinochet was accused last year of hiding some $27 million in foreign bank accounts. He also faces human rights charges stemming from his 17-year reign (1973-90) when some 3,000 people disappeared.
