PROVO — Investigators are calling an early morning fire that damaged a Utah County business on April 14 "suspicious."
Provo Battalion Chief Gary Jolley said a dog from the state fire marshal's office sniffed areas where accelerants were likely used.
The fire last week burned a jewelry store located at 495 N. University Ave. just before 6 a.m. After crews extinguished the blaze, authorities discovered evidence during the investigation that was deemed suspicious.
Officials said the blaze is still under investigation and no suspects or cause have been determined. Damage to the building was estimated at more than $10,000.
Evidence gathered at the scene has been sent to a lab for review. Results are expected in about three to four weeks.
Jolley said authorities have inspected the building and are also conducting interviews as part of the investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Provo Fire Department at 801-852-6321.
