SALT LAKE CITY -- The MPAA

Family Media Guide, deseretnews.com
Family Media Guide, deseretnews.com

Deseretnews.com has launched a beta version of their news section, Family Media Guide. Here you can browse through movies and not only will you get reviews, but you can also see a point scale for each movie in three categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity. The point scale goes one to 10. One being the lowest and 10 the highest.

You can also weigh in and vote what you think the film should be rated.

LDSliving.com previewed the site and had this to say, "And, like any good media review site, there is a place for users to give their reasoning behind their votes and a chance to add any other information about the movie they feel should be included."

If you feel you want more than just a point value on the content you can check out a site that desnews.com has teamed up with to help with their ratings, kids-in-mind.com.

One last place you can check out is IMDB.com. The site is well known for listing actors, directors and writers from pretty much every film ever made. But what a lot of people don't know is it also has a Parents Guide for films. The problem with this is it can often be vague and not every film has one. But an advantage is that if there are any spoilers they are usually marked.

As a parent you now have some tools to find out what your kids are watching and as kids you now have some proof to show your parents that the movie you want to go see isn't as bad as they think it is.

If you know of some other sites tell us about them on Facebook and what they have to offer.
