OGDEN -- Dozens of college students got up early Saturday morning to rake leaves, drag big branches and clean up Mother Earth.

Earth Day isn't officially until next week, but volunteers from the University of Utah didn't to wait until then to get started. Split into four groups, they spruced up river areas and Antelope Island. They also created several community gardens.

"You won't think that a lot of people would be really happy dragging tree branches around, but for some reason, it really gets people's spirit up," said volunteer and coordinator Maia Taylor.

The Ogden Nature Center hosted its own Earth Day celebration Saturday. The event was the largest ever -- featuring over 60 earth-friendly exhibitors, workshops, activities, food and green-product vendors.

Admission was free to those who walked or rode a bike to the event.

Earth Day is Friday, April 22.
