DRAPER -- The federal government is recognizing a Utah construction company for its work on four bridge replacements.
The U.S. Department of Transportation presented Wadsworth Brothers Construction Company Friday with a design award for planning, designing and executing the replacement of four bridges on I-80 in Parleys Canyon in 2008.
All four bridge replacements -- at the Mountain Dell Interchange and the Lambs Canyon Interchange -- took place within 37 hours. It normally takes several months for a project of this scope to be completed.
UDOT credits the Wadsworth Brothers' innovative bridge construction design -- which included building the bridges in the median of I-80 and sliding them into place -- for the quick finish.
"We are proud to have helped pioneer a bridge building and replacement design that saved Utah taxpayers a significant amount of money on this project," said Guy Wadsworth, founder of Wadsworth Brothers.
An award ceremony took place Friday in Draper.
