Berkeley-based novelist Ayelet Waldman is The Bee Book Club's choice for February. Her book, "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits" (Doubleday, $23.95, 352 pages), goes on sale Jan. 24.
Waldman is best known for her six-book "Mommy Track" mystery series, about the adventures of a stay-at-home mom who runs an investigations business.
"This is my second straight-up novel that is not a murder mystery," she said. (The first was "Daughter's Keeper" in 2003.) "I will be writing more novels like this, but I do have another ''Mommy Track' mystery coming out later (this year)."
OAS_AD('Button20'); Waldman described her new book as being "about a young woman who has a young stepson with whom she doesn't really get along. It's about her learning to love him, and that's what it's going to take for her to redeem herself and her marriage."
The former trial lawyer will give a presentation, host a question-and-answer session and sign her book on Thursday, Feb. 9.
