(KSL News) More than 100 extra beds are now available at the Salt Lake County Jail.
Last night the Salt Lake County Council voted to open the extra beds to ease overcrowding.
Ironically, it was the council's decision two years ago to close two units of the jail. That move led to the overcrowding.
District Attorney Lohra Miller says without the extra beds open, "safety of the community" is in jeopardy because inmates are being released ahead of schedule.
