SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State officials are working with Utah's polygamous community to again revise "The Primer," a guide to understanding polygamous culture for social workers, police and other service providers.
Mike Leetham is the administrative coordinator of the Safety Net Committee, an outreach program which works with polygamous groups and service agencies in Utah and Arizona.
Leetham says the 2011 version of the guide is being circulated for editing by polygamous groups. A draft will be presented for a final review at a meeting in St. George on April 7.
The primer was first produced in 2005 by the Utah attorney general's office.
The book provides an overview of polygamous groups, their beliefs and cultural practices. It outlines state laws related to polygamy and provides a guide to recognizing abuse and domestic violence.
