American singer/songwriter NELLIE McKAY has split from her record label Sony after a disagreement over the length of her second album.
The British-born star had been hopeful of releasing PRETTY LITTLE HEAD, the follow-up to her 2004 debut disc GET AWAY FROM ME, on Tuesday (03JAN06).
But McKay, 21, wanted Pretty Little Head to include 23 songs, lasting 65 minutes, while Sony's Columbia Records wanted to release 16 songs, lasting 48 minutes.
At a Los Angeles concert in November (05), McKay told the audience of the label's plan and urged fans to email Columbia executives to demand the full length album.
In a statement yesterday, McKay said, "Sources are hopeful that Pretty Little Head will be released in early 2006." (ES/WNWR/GES)
