Shelley Osterloh ReportingEntertainment, kids activities, fireworks – there’s lots to enjoy at this year's First Night in downtown Salt Lake City.
The tents and the stage are already up. Salt Lake's West Temple is going through a transformation: It is going to be "Big Easy Street" with the sounds and feel of Mardi Gras. West Temple between First and Second south is closed to traffic as workers set up stages, tents and decorations for the 14th annual First Night in Downtown Salt Lake City.
Starting at 10:30 is the headliner, Nathan and zydeco Cha Cha's take to stage, but there is plenty of other entertainment too
Tracy Von Harten, First Night Salt Lake: "We've got a world music stage where you can see Polynesian music, Middle Eastern dancers, we have a couple of stages that I'm excited about because they are more for relaxing. We’ve got a folk and blues stage and also a Hispanic music stage. So these places are indoors, lots of seating and a place to relax and enjoy the entertainment."
About 70% of the activities are indoors, like the art installation entitled "Urban Life" from YouthCity Government. Salt Lake teens took their own photos of the city for the display. There will also be video of interviews with folks about how they see the future of Salt Lake City.
Anthony Sainz Age 17 Cottonwood High School: "We kind of hope that they see some of the better things about Salt Lake City and what they really like about it and the things that they can really embrace about Salt Lake City, how there's a lot of things to do."
Claire Reilly, Age 16, East High School: "Because a lot of people just live here they don’t know about their city, so this tells about the history, what's to come and what has been here."
If you buy your entrance pass today, it's $8. Tomorrow the price will be $10. You can buy those at any Albertson's grocery store.
