SALT LAKE CITY -- A state lawmaker and highway patrol trooper is hoping his resolution in support of roadside crosses sends a message to the Supreme Court.

Lee Perry is a lieutenant with the Utah Highway Patrol and a Utah state representative. He hopes the Supreme Court decides to hear the case challenging highway crosses that honor fallen UHP troopers.

"What I'm feeling here is, this is a case where the minority thinks that the minority voice should be heard, and that we ought to do things based on what a very small minority wants," Perry said.

He says his resolution would tell the justices that not only troopers but also state legislators and the governor support the use of crosses -- or other symbols -- as memorials.

His resolution sailed unanimously through committee and is up before the full House next.
