SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah House voted overwhelmingly to eliminate the gun-free zones near schools and colleges.

Rep. Curt Oda, R-Clearfield, says the 1,000-foot zones often are too confusing -- especially in cities with many schools.

He wants to protect gun owners who break the law by mistake, and his measure does not allow people to openly carry guns on school grounds.

HB75 now goes before the Senate.
