The driver, 19-year-old Steven Cochran of Vernal, has multiple injuries, including two broken legs and brain trauma.

Highway Patrol troopers say Cochran tried to pass a car, but didn't see an oncoming truck. Both cars veered to avoid each other, but crashed head-on off the road.

Three people in the truck were treated and released.

Cochran was scheduled to leave on an LDS church mission to Spain next month.
