SOUTH OGDEN -- One man is dead following a shootout with police near an apartment complex Thursday morning.
A South Ogden police officer and Brent Marlin Imes, 48, came in contact in the 4300 block of Adams Avenue about 9:50 a.m., said South Ogden police officer Marci Edwards.
Information about why the officer was initially called to the scene and what transpired between the officer and the suspect were not immediately known.
The man drew a weapon on the officer and fired at least one shot, Edwards said, missing the officer. The officer returned fire, striking the man.
The gunman was taken to Ogden Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, Edwards said.
The name of the officer was also not released. Edwards said he was placed on standard paid administrative leave.
The shooting happened outside, near an apartment complex.
