HERRIMAN -- A small stretch of road in Salt Lake County has been permanently closed to make way for a major project in the area.
On Tuesday, crews closed a portion of 11800 South in Herriman and South Jordan, between Daybreak Parkway and Vadania Drive, to make way for the Mountain View Corridor Project.

Crews will realign 11800 South to its new location, around 5600 West, where it will connect to the corridor.
While the Utah Department of Transportation acknowledges this may be a hassle for drivers, it says the road has to be closed to prepare for the projected transportation demands in the area.
"All of the communities out here are growing very fast," said Tania Mashburn, spokeswoman for the Utah Department of Transportation. "They need another connection. This will be a huge benefit to 13 municipalities out there once the full Mountain View Corridor is built."
The Mountain View Corridor will be a major road for residents on the west side of Salt Lake County.
Construction there has been going on for months. When finished, it will give motorists two lanes in both directions.
To do that, crews need room to work, which is why Tuesday's 11800 South closure had to happen.
A detour is in place to allow traffic to access Daybreak Parkway through alternative routes at 4000 West and Grandville Avenue.
"It's hard for people to get used to taking new routes," Mashburn said. "And it will probably be a hassle for a little while for them to get used to taking a detour, but hopefully with the detours we set up, it will be easy enough for them to not have to try and go through 18000 and put these guys in danger."
UDOT says this portion of the Mountain View Corridor will be finished toward the end of 2012.
