SALT LAKE CITY -- A unique Salt Lake City boutique is about to close its doors, but the family who runs it wants to go out with a bang.

Jake Western lost his job in June and was diagnosed one month later with a terminal brain tumor. With no job and no health insurance, Jake had no way to support his young family.

The community rallied together and helped the family open "For Jake's Sake," a boutique and thrift store at the corner of Filmore and Stratford in the Highland Park neighborhood.

"The neighborhood, everything you see in here has been donated," Jake said. "We can't do it without them."

The family says the store has allowed them to cover many of their expenses. They have been able to keep up with their bills, stay in their home and even had enough money left over for Christmas.

"Financially, it's being more successful than ever, but more important for especially myself and my family it has given me something to take my mind off my cancer treatment," Jake said.

But after three months in business, the donated lease on the store is up and it's time to close shop. The Westerns hosted one last fundraiser Saturday night that included food, entertainment and a sale on vintage items.

The fundraiser takes place at the store at 1555 E. Stratford Ave. Ste 500 and will run until 9 p.m.

The Westerns will try to keep the business open online HERE.
