Samantha Hayes ReportingSalt Lake County Deputies are working through dozens of tips after Eyewitness News aired a surveillance video. Those pictures show the truck investigators believe was involved in a hit and run that killed an elderly man earlier this month. The man was returning from his research job at the University of Utah where he was a well-known entomologist.

Investigators are pretty sure the man driving the truck is the suspect they are looking for, for two reasons. One is witness statements; two security personnel at the Home Depot say they saw the driver pull into the back parking lot and get out of his vehicle. They say the man held his head in his hands and seemed distressed. The man got back in the truck and drove out of the parking lot, that's what the surveillance video caught on tape.

And second, their statements correspond to the time of the accident, just about three minutes after the hit and run, and the truck showed up on the surveillance video a couple of minutes after that.

That surveillance video from Home Depot was really the first break in the case. Before that investigators said they really didn't have much to go on. Lots of tips came in after airing that and one of the investigators on the case told me this afternoon they had some promising leads.

Again, if you have any information, call the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department.
