NEW YORK, Dec 13, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Broadway star Maria Friedman, who opened in "The Woman in White" days after breast cancer surgery has had another operation, it was reported Tuesday.

Friedman underwent an undisclosed procedure Monday and will miss several performances of the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

"It is premature to speculate on Maria's return to the show this week," a spokesman for the musical said. "The nature of her surgery was investigative and her course of treatment is still to be determined."

Friedman was hailed for her opening night performance last month, only nine days after having a lump removed from her left breast.

Understudy Lisa Brescia is expected to step into the leading role until Friedman returns.
