SALT LAKE CITY -- Heavy fog mixed with inversion forced delays and cancellations at the Salt Lake International Airport Sunday.
This is the third "red air day" in a row in the Salt Lake Valley, resulting in thick air, low visibility and dangerous inversion. UDOT is asking people to limit driving to stop it from getting any worse.
Since early Sunday afternoon visibility is 1/8 of a mile or just under 700 feet.
Salt Lake International Airport spokeswoman Barbara Gann said arrivals were delayed 10 to 20 minutes and departures were delayed anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes.
Some passengers have already been told the earliest they'll fly out is Monday morning.
"They just said it was canceled and I think it's due to the fog," said Jenny Burgess, whose flight to San Francisco was canceled due to the fog. "It's just frustrating and going through all the motions and then you're waiting."
The heavy fog is expected to last through the night and the airport is encouraging travelers to check their flight status with their airlines before heading to the airport.
