In the transcripts Mitchell comes across as calm and collected while speaking to an FBI agent and a Salt Lake City police officer before eventually ignoring the officers by singing hymns and then yelling at them.
Prosecutors played the tape of the interview in court on Nov. 15, day seven of Mitchell's trial. In the interview Mitchell refers to himself as Immanuel David Isaiah and gives brief answers using theological terms during questioning, even when pressed by the two men.
Mitchell claimed Smart was delivered to him and Wanda Barzee by "the Lord God Almighty" and when pressed about raping Smart, Mitchell replied, "I've only done what I've been commanded to do" and told the two men that Smart is 18 years old "in God's eyes."
After about an hour, Mitchell asks to take a bathroom break and upon his return begins singing hymns. While the officers continue to ask him questions, Mitchell says, "I am the Lord Jesus Christ" then screams about a dozen times, "Get thee behind me, Satan!" at the officers.
He then remained quiet with his eyes closed while they continued to ask him questions.
