This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Every year Utah resorts get 500 inches of snow. I'm sure this is a major selling point for our thriving ski industry.

The Canyons gets the bragging rights as the biggest ski resort in Utah and the fourth largest in North America. This privately held resort is giving back to Utah through capital investments.

They're adding 300 acres of brand new skiing, increasing their size to 4,000 acres. They also plan to open the season with a new high-speed quad, 200 chairs, heated seats and a bubble enclosure to protect you from the cold.

There's also two drop off points, making it one of the country's longest chair lifts. This lift will increase skier traffic by almost 50 percent and get you up the hill in nine minutes.

The gondola has been moved over for easier access and if that's not enough, a new "ski beach" will be added with an award-winning culinary service team and a great view of the mountains. The Canyons has also decided to put in a 20-million gallon reservoir for snow-making, which doubles its previous capacity.

Just down the street is another major player among Utah ski resorts: Park City Mountain Resort. They take pride in being the only one to offer ski in and ski out directly to Park City's Historic Main Street.

Just last year they launched the Start Now program to encourage Utah locals of all ages to learn how to ski. For only $25, you can get a lesson, equipment rental and lift ticket and can return up to five times. They expanded night skiing into the Three Kings Park area of the resort with more lights and longer hours. This year they also added three new Adventure Alley runs for intermediates.

Park City focuses on creating a wonderful guest experience and emphasizes the downhill.
