PROVIDENCE - A Providence man is dead after being hit by a vehicle Sunday night.

The 72-year-old man died when he tried to walk across State Road 165 at 1200 South.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers say Ben Turman was walking on a crosswalk when the driver of a Mitsubishi Montero hit him. Troopers say the driver saw Thurman, but could not stop in time.

Turman was transported to Logan Regional Hospital, where he died several hours later after sustaining injuries to his head and pelvis.

"Several witnesses confirmed that the vehicle had the right of way," Highway Patrol trooper Todd Johnson said. "It's unfortunate. Somebody just stepped out into traffic when they shouldn't have."

The driver was not injured in the accident.
