CHERNOVTSY, Ukraine, Nov 19, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A woman in Chernovtsy, Ukraine, has given birth to a 15.4-pound baby boy, the heaviest child ever born in the nation, a report said.
The baby, whose birth weight equaled that of a typical 6-month-old, and his mother were being treated by specialists, the Russian news agency Itar-Tass reported.
While the boy is hefty, his 15.4-pound birth weight pales next to the Guinness world record 23.75-pound boy born to Anna Bates in Seville, Ohio, in January 1879.
The second heaviest child, also was a boy, a 22.5-pound infant born to Carmelina Fedele in Aversa, Italy, in September 1955, according to Guinness.
