OGDEN — An Ogden man led police on a short car chase Wednesday after allegedly stealing about $540 worth of metal posts from the sides of city roads.

Ogden Police Lt. Eric Young said 49-year-old Clyde Jackson was spotted by city shop employees who witnessed him loading metal posts into the back of his truck near 29th Street and Reeves Avenue. The employees called police and followed the truck until police arrived and began following the man.

Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but Jackson sped away "at high speeds," Young said. Officers pursued the truck for a few blocks, to the intersection of 32nd Street and Gramercy, before the driver surrendered.

Young said Jackson may faces charges of evading police, theft and trespassing.
