SALT LAKE CITY -- A convicted killer won't have an opportunity for parole until 2036, the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole has decided.
Michael Jones, 44, strangled and stabbed Tara Brennan during a drug deal in her car at Poplar Grove Park in 2004. He was arrested three years later after DNA evidence linked him to a cigarette butt found in the car.
In February, he was convicted of murder, aggravated robbery and drug distribution, and sentenced to 11-years-to-life in prison. The Salt Lake Tribune reports Jones will serve at least 29 years of that sentence before his first parole hearing is held.
